Ferro Coating Resins is a South African based organization with a vision centred on product innovation and customer focus. The Organization has a manufacturing facility in Durban and specializes in the manufacture and distribution of Resins and Additives for the Architectural, Industrial, Construction, Adhesives and Graphic Art markets. Product offerings include Alkyds & Modified Alkyds, Acrylics, Styrene Acrylic Emulsions, Pure Acrylic Emulsions, Saturated Polyesters, Polyamides, Rheology Modifiers and Surface modifiers

Established in 1907, the Natal Chemical Syndicate (NCS) was founded to manufacture white spirits and tanning extract. NCS Resins has since emerged as the largest manufacturer of unsaturated polyester resins in Africa. NCS Resins has a strong presence in East Africa and Indian Ocean Islands, as well as in West Africa. Operating as a division of Ferro South Africa, NCS Resins manufacture and supply a complete range of high quality resins, ancillary products and accessories, and processing equipment suitable for all fabricating methods.

Ferro Plastic is unique in South Africa in that it is the only manufacturer of black, white and filler masterbatch using both internal high energy mixers and twin co-rotating extruders, which provide exceptional pigment dispersion. Substantial tonnages of a wide variety of masterbatch, specifically designed to suit the individual requirements of the industry are produced daily.

Spectrum Ceramics manufacture and supply specialised frits, customised glazes and a range of complimentary products to the ceramic wall and floor tile, sanitary ware and tableware industries.

Thanks to Ferro Glass fore-hearth technology, glass packaging on the shelf really shines. Ferro has been involved from the beginning in providing the glass enamels and conductive silver pastes required to meet the demanding specifications set by the automobile producers and the glass industry. Ferro has long been a leader in the supply of innovative glass enamel colours for flat glass. We were the first to introduce “lead free” and “cadmium free” colour systems to the industry in the 1990’s and the first to introduce durable colours for use on the exposed outside surface of exterior architectural glass.

Through Ferro Enamels, we provide innovative and market leading porcelain email solutions. Porcelain enamel or vitreous enamel is a glass that is bonded to metal, generally low carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron or aluminium, at temperatures from as low as 530° C for aluminium to 900° C for cast iron. The company pioneered ready to use, as well as ready mill, porcelain enamel formulations, which require no adjustments or modifications prior to their applications. The electrostatic application of porcelain enamel in a powder form, an earlier development by Ferro, continues to give manufacturers an energy efficient and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional wet application. It also provides a thinner and better finish coating to wet applied porcelain enamel.

Ferro recognised the advantages of powder coatings and entered the Southern African market in 1985 with VEDOC, Versatile Economical Durable Organic Coatings. VEDOC has grown substantially over the years and is currently recognised as the leading brand in the powder coating industry. VEDOC quality: The unique rheological and application characteristics of VEDOC powder coatings provide superior consistency and uniformity of finish without sags, drips, runs, or bubbles. They provide extremely tough, durable films, enhancing the high quality, value-added image of consumer products. In general, the performance properties, such as impact resistance, flexibility, and corrosion resistance, of powder coatings are better than liquid paints. Powder coated parts resist cracking, peeling, and marring during handling and normal service use. In many cases, merchandise is specifically being advertised as “POWDER COATED” because of the quality image it projects.

In 2016, Ferro South Africa purchased the South African division of Synthomer PLC and its subsidiary Arkem. Synthomer was renamed to Ferro Dispersions in keeping with the Ferro South Africa name and brand. The technology and continued distribution of Synthomer products remain unchanged.

Synthomer South Africa has a proud history and an excellent reputation as a dispersants company with an exemplary record of delivering high-quality products to the South African market. Ferro Dispersions manufactures a broad range of speciality water-based polymeric dispersion products that are used in the Coatings, Construction, Adhesive and Textile Industry.
